Photography styles
There are basically three styles of wedding photography.
I can provide coverage in a combination of these styles
according to your preferences.
FORMAL: Traditional wedding photography, which means that
I will actively set up situations and poses. Examples of
this style include group photographs, the formal signing
of the register, cutting of the cake, etc.
INFORMAL: Photography in a more relaxed and natural style,
but one where I still intervene to some degree in the proceedings
to make sure that I get specific photographs (e.g. of the
bride and groom together).
REPORTAGE: Sometimes called storybook, documentary or photojournalistic
photography, this means that I capture what I see in a purely
candid fashion. In this way I can photograph people acting
a far more natural way. On the other hand, I cannot guarantee
that I will be able to capture specific photographs because,
by definition, I have no control over the events as they
unfold.
The Gallery pages include examples
of what I would classify as formal, informal and reportage
photographs.
Most couples like to have photographs taken in more then
one style. I would caution against too many formal photographs,
however, because they are time-consuming to arrange and
so the photography time eats into your day. I don't reccommend
long lists of "must have" shots as you should
allow sufficient time to enjoy yourselves and mingle with
your guests too!
Planning the day
I like to meet with clients a few weeks before the event,
to go through the order of the day, discuss timings, locations
etc. This will allow me to work efficiently and less obtrusively
on the wedding day itself. If I haven't been to the locations
recently, I will normally visit them in advance so that
I am well prepared.
I only attend one wedding per day, so that I can be available
to take photographs at the bride's home beforehand.
I am based in Cambridge and I cover weddings taking place
across East Anglia and the Home Counties.
